Diatom Enterprises has successfully completed another year, and we would like to release our year in review, highlighting the top events and news that happened in 2018.

International award winner

In 2018 we received a RAR Recommended certificate from the RAR Digital Awards 2018, thanks to our clients who rated us as one of the best software development companies in Europe. Diatom has offered custom software development services since 2004, and our team does their best to get clients’ satisfaction.

Stronger business ties with Sweden

Diatom Enterprises made stronger ties with Sweden in 2018. Our business development director, Darja Krizska-Popova, was elected to the Swedish Chamber of Commerce as a board member in May 2018, further strengthening our close business relationships with Swedish companies and startups.

Publications in a well-known magazine

Another important news item from 2018 was Baltic Outlook magazine’s articles about our company. In the January 2018 edition, Baltic Outlook published an article about our robot, Pepper, which has joined Diatom Enterprises since 2016. As the magazine mentioned, Pepper is an executive intern at Diatom and part of our company’s everyday life. We are not afraid that robots will replace us in the workplace; we believe that robots make our lives easier.

The second publication in Baltic Outlook magazine was in November 2018, dedicated to 100 years of Latvian independence. In this edition, the magazine interviewed Diatom’s CEO, Denis Gorshkov about outsourcing software development. Denis gave a detailed explanation about what outsourcing software development really is: “You can buy a readymade plan, which will be faster but won’t always correspond to all of the client’s wishes. Or you can have an individual plan drawn up. It might take more time, but you’ll only be paying for what you really need, and you won’t have to spend money to redo things. Thanks to our team of accomplished specialists, made up of people from all around the world, we are able to offer individual solutions like this.”

Participation in Tech events

In 2018 our colleagues represented Diatom Enterprises at various tech events and conferences. Our full-stack developer Janis Miezitis attended the Front-end Conference in Riga and gave a speech about getting rid of runtime errors with Elm.

Diatom’s sales and marketing team attended the PropTech Riga 2018  Conference, where our colleague Alekseys Beloglazovs gave a speech about Diatom Enterprises’ software development projects for real estate and property management industries and shared Diatom’s experience working with the US market. It was the first PropTech Conference in Riga, and our robot Pepper was given the special responsibility of meeting guests of the conference and guiding visitors with an event application developed by our company.

The other big event that Diatom attended as an exhibitor was Riga Comm Tech Conference 2018. Our team met event visitors and other attendees who were interested in custom software development solutions. Many attendees were interested in our robot Pepper and how we develop applications and software for robotics. The tech conferences that we attended in 2018 brought us new opportunities to collaborate with different international companies.

New colleagues joined Diatom Enterprises

2018 began with new colleagues joining the team. Diatom Enterprises expanded its Node.js and React.js development team, and many international and remote developers chose Diatom as the next step in their career.

Opportunities for IT students

In 2018 Diatom Enterprises signed a new collaboration agreement with Transport and Telecommunication University to invite students to apply for internship opportunities in our company. We had interns from Latvia, as well as an international student from the Czech Republic, Jiri Frajirek Vlasak. Here is what Jiri said about us on Facebook:

International IT student from the Czech Republic

“The internship at Diatom Enterprises has been a great experience for me. I had never been to a software development company before, so I am glad that I could experience it. The atmosphere has been very friendly, and I worked on a very interesting project. I hope that I can be part of such a good company.”

Robot Pepper’s blog

Last year was also a successful year for our robot Pepper. She was not only busy visiting events, but she also demonstrated her blogging skills by making videos for beginner developers, including “the 3 most important things for junior developers.” If you are beginning a career as a developer, or even if you’re a seasoned professional, make sure to follow our YouTube channel and check out Pepper’s videos.

Lectures on robotics

In 2018 Diatom hosted lectures featuring the robot Pepper, robotics, automation and artificial intelligence for schoolchildren. Diatom representatives answered curious questions and even informed students about the jobs that could disappear because of automation technologies.

Conclusion

2018 was very successful, and we believe that 2019 will be even more prosperous for Diatom Enterprises. The strength of Diatom’s team lies in each individual’s commitment to the company’s work, which is why big thanks go to our team!
